Herbert Eugene "Herb" Caen was born in Sacramento, California, USA. He was an American journalist. A special Pulitzer Prize called him the "voice and conscience" of San Francisco." In 1936 he began writing a radio programming column for the San Francisco Chronicle. He wrote several books include: Baghdad-by-the-bay, The cable car and the dragon, One Man's San Francisco, Don't Call it Frisco, and Herb Caen's San Francisco: 1976-1991.
