Elizabeth Kenny was born in Warialda, New South Wales, Australia. She was an unaccredited Australian nurse who promoted a controversial new approach to the treatment of poliomyelitis. Kenny's principles of muscle rehabilitation became the foundation of physical therapy, or physiotherapy.
