Jean Ingelow was born in Boston, Lincolnshire, England. She was an English poet and novelist. Her work often focused on religious introspection. In the United States, her poems obtained great public acclaim, and the collection was said to have sold 200,000 copies. She wrote several books include: A story of doom and other Poems, Fated to Be Free (novel), Off the Skelligs (novel), Sarah de Berenger (novel), Don John (novel), The shepherd lady and other poems, The Complete Poems of Jean Ingelow, and Poems of the Old Days and the New. She also wrote Studies for Stories, Stories told to a Child, Mopsa the Fairy, and other stories for children.
