John William Carson was born in Corning, Iowa, USA. He was an American television host and comedian. He is best known as the host of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson from 1962-1992. He earned a BA degree in Radio and Speech from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1949. He began his broadcasting career in 1950 at WOW radio and television in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a major investor in the failed DeLorean Motor Company. He received six Emmy Awards, the Television Academy's 1980 Governor's Award, and a 1985 Peabody Award. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992.
