Eric Berne was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was a Canadian-American psychiatrist who, in the middle of the 20th century, created the theory of transactional analysis as a way of explaining human behavior. He received an M.D. and C.M. from McGill University Medical School in 1935. He came to the United States in 1935. In 1951, he accepted a position of Adjunct and Attending Psychiatrist at the Veterans Administration and Mental Hygiene Clinic, San Francisco. He wrote several books include: The Mind in Action, Sex in Human Loving, Games People Play, and The Happy Valley.
