Joseph Robert Theismann was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. He is a former professional gridiron football player, sportscaster and restaurateur. He accepted a college football scholarship to attend the University of Notre Dame. He played quarterback in the National Football League and Canadian Football League. Following his retirement from football in 1985 after a career-ending injury, he worked as a sportscaster and an analyst on pro football broadcasts with ESPN for nearly 20 years. He is the owner of Theismann's Restaurant and Bar in Alexandria, Virginia, founded 1975. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003.
