Harriet Elisabeth Beecher Stowe was born in Litchfield, Connecticut, USA. She was an American author, novelist and social activist. In 1850, Congress passed the Fugitive Slave Law, prompting distress and distress in abolitionist and free black communities of the North. Stowe decided to express her feelings through a literary representation of slavery, basing her work on the life of Josiah Henson and on her own observations. She best known for her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. She wrote 30 books, including novels, three travel memoirs, and collections of articles and letters. She wrote several novels include: Dred, The Minister's Wooing, The Pearl of Orr's Island, Old Town Folks, and My Wife and I. She wrote other books include: A Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin, Palmetto Leaves, Lady Byron vindicated, Poganuc People, Woman in sacred history, Pink and white tyranny, Betty's Bright Idea, The First Christmas of New England, Religious Poems, and Amazing Life of Christ.
