Joan Baehler Bauer was born in River Forest, Illinois, USA. She is an American novelist of young adult literature. She also did some work in advertising, marketing, and screenwriting. She has written several novels include: Squashed, Thwonk, Sticks, Rules of the Road (Golden Kite Award for Fiction, LA Times Book Prize), Backwater, Hope Was Here (John Newbery Medal), Peeled, Close to Famous, Almost Home, and Soar. She is a member of the Writers Guild of America East, the Authors Guild, PEN, and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
