Geraldine Brooks was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. She is an Australian-American journalist and author whose 2005 novel, March, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. She graduated from University of Sydney. Following graduation, she worked as a reporter for The Sydney Morning Herald for three years as a feature writer with a special interest in environmental issues. She moved to the USA, completing a master's degree at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1983. In 2006, she was awarded a fellowship at Harvard University's Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. She worked as a foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal. She has written several novels include: Year of Wonders, March, People of the Book, Caleb's Crossing, and The Secret Chord. Her nonfiction works including Nine Parts of Desire and Foreign Correspondence.
