Dermot Healy was born in Finnea, County Westmeath, Ireland. He was an Irish novelist, playwright, poet, and short story writer. His poetry includes The Ballyconnel Colours; What the Hammer; The Reed Bed; and A Fool’s Errand. His awards include the Hennessy Award; the Tom Gallon Award; the Encore Award; and the AWB Vincent American Ireland Fund Literary Award, 2002. His first novel is, Fighting with Shadows. A Goat's Song is Healy's second novel.
