Douglas Cuthbert Colquhoun Young was born in Tayport, Fife, Scotland. He was a Scottish professor, poet, and politician. He was the leader of the Scottish National Party from 1942 to 1945, and was a professor at McMaster University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduating with an first-class MA in Classics in 1934, and then at New College, Oxford, from 1935 to 1938.
