Sir James Steuart, late in life Sir James Steuart Denham, also called Sir James Denham Steuart was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was a Scottish economist. He educated at the University of Edinburgh. In 1767, he published An Inquiry into the Principles of Political Economy. The book was the most complete and systematic survey of the science from the point of view of moderate mercantilism which had appeared in England and indeed the first full-fledged economics treatise to appear anywhere.
