Irene Hunt was born in Illinois, USA. She was an American children's writer known for best historical novels. She studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Colorado Boulder. She taught psychology at the University of South Dakota. She wrote several novels include: Across Five Aprils( Newbery Honor Medal, Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award, Lewis Carroll Shelf Award), Up a Road Slowly(Newbery Medal), No Promises in the Wind(Charles W. Follett Award), The Lottery Rose, William, and Claws of a Young Century. She wrote other books include: Trail of Apple Blossoms and The Everlasting Hills(Parents' Choice Award).
