Ivor Bertie Gurney was born in Gloucester, England. He was an English poet and composer, particularly of songs. He began composing music at the age of 14, and won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in 1911. He wrote hundreds of poems and more than 300 songs, as well as instrumental music. His songs list shown below: "I Will Go With My Father A-Ploughing," "To His Love," "Nocturne in B major," and "Sleep." He wrote several poems include: Strange Hells, Ballad of the Three Spectres, Maisemore, and To the Poet before Battle.
