João Guimarães Rosa was born in Cordisburgo, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He was a Brazilian novelist, short story writer and diplomat. He earned his MD degree from Minas Gerais University in 1930. He wrote several books include: Magma (poetry), Sagarana (short stories), Corpo de Baile (short stories), The Devil to Pay in the Backlands (novel), Primeras Historias (short stories), Tutaméia: Terceiras estórias (short stories), and Estas estórias (short stories).
