Charles E. Curran was grew up in Rochester, New York. He is an American Roman Catholic priest and moral theologian. He currently serves at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, as the Elizabeth Scurlock University Professor of Human Values. While the controversy was unfolding, Curran taught as a visiting professor at Cornell University and Auburn University. He is an expert on fundamental moral theology, social ethics, role of the Catholic Church as a moral and political actor in society, and Catholic moral theology. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including Catholic Moral Theology in the United States: A History and Loyal Dissent: Memoir of a Catholic Theologian.
