John Fellows Akers was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He was an American businessman. At International Business Machines Corporation, he was president between 1983 and 1989, the CEO from 1985 until 1993, and chairman between 1986 and 1993. He earned a BS degree from Yale University in 1956. He retired as chairman and CEO of IBM on April 1, 1993, which was ironically and coincidentally April Fools' Day.
