Systrom was born in Holliston, Massachusetts, and is the son of Diane, a marketing executive, and Douglas Systrom, a president in human resources. Systrom attended Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts, and graduated in 2006 from Stanford University with a B.S. in management science and engineering. At Stanford, he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
