Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.
Alexander Pope Quotes
Books and the Man I sing, the first who brings The Smithfield Muses to the Ear of Kings. Say great Patricians! (since your selves inspire These wond’rous works; so Jove and Fate require) Say from what cause, in vain decry’d and curst, Still Dunce the second reigns like Dunce the first?

Alexander Pope was an 18th-century English poet, best known for his satirical verse and for his translation of Homer. Famous for his use of the heroic couplet, he is the third-most frequently quoted writer in The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, after Shakespeare and Tennyson. An Essay on Criticism was first published anonymously on 15 May 1711. Pope began writing the poem early in his career and took about three years to finish it. Pope's most famous poem is The Rape of the Lock, first published in 1712, with a revised version published in 1714.
