Dorothy Parker was born in Long Branch, New Jersey. She was an American poet, writer, and satirist, best known for her wit, wisecracks, and eye for 20th-century urban foibles. She sold her first poem to Vanity Fair magazine in 1914. She published her first volume of poetry, Enough Rope, in 1926. Her best-known short story, "Big Blonde", published in The Bookman magazine, was awarded the O. Henry Award as the best short story of 1929.
