John Kingsley "Joe" Orton was born in Leicester, England. He was an English playwright and author. He applied for a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in November 1950. He wrote several plays include: The Visitors, The Ruffian on the Stair, Entertaining Mr Sloane, Loot, The Erpingham Camp, Funeral Games, and What the Butler Saw. He wrote several books include: The Orton Diaries, The Complete Plays, Fred and Madge, Head to toe (novel), Between Us Girls (novel), and Lord Cucumber and The Boy Hairdresser (novel, with Kenneth Halliwell).
