Daniel O'Connell was born in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Ireland. He was an Irish politician and lawyer. He campaigned for Catholic Emancipation—including the right for Catholics to sit in the Westminster Parliament, denied for over 100 years—and repeal of the Act of Union which combined Great Britain and Ireland. On 19 May 1798, O'Connell was called to the Irish Bar and became a barrister.
