Jeffrey McDaniel was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He is an American poet and teacher. He earned a BA degree from Sarah Lawrence College in 1990. He earned an MFA degree from George Mason University in 1993. He is the recipient of a creative writing fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. He has published five books of poetry. His first three books, Alibi School, The Forgiveness Parade, and The Splinter Factory were published by Manic D Press, and other two books, The Endarkenment, and Chapel of Inadvertent Joy were published by University of Pittsburgh Press. Since 2001, he has been teaching creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College. In 2010, he was one of five judges for the National Book award in poetry.
