Jan Nepomuk Neruda was born in Prague, Bohemia, Czech Republic. He was a Czech journalist and poet. After studying philosophy and philology, he worked as a teacher until 1860, when he became a freelance journalist and writer. He started his career as a journalist in the Národní Listy, later in the Obrazy Domova and the Čas. He also cooperated with the Květy and with the Lumír magazine. He wrote several poems include: Cosmic Songs, Ballads and romance, and Simple motives.
