Galen, better known as Galen of Pergamon was born in Pergamon, Turkey. He was a prominent Greek physician, surgeon, and philosopher in the Roman empire. He studied medicine in Egypt. Arguably the most accomplished of all medical researchers of antiquity, he influenced the development of various scientific disciplines, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and neurology, as well as philosophy and logic. His theories dominated and influenced Western medical science for more than 1,300 years. He wrote several books include: On The natural Faculties, On the therapeutic method, and Galen on food and diet.
