Dirk Bogarde was born in West Hampstead, London, England. He was an English actor and writer. He is known for his complex roles in the dark films Death in Venice, Victim and The Night Porter. Other notable films include The Servant, The Fixer and The Night Porter. In a second career, Bogarde wrote seven best-selling volumes of memoirs, six novels and a volume of collected journalism, mainly from his articles in The Daily Telegraph. He studied at the Chelsea College of Art and Design.
