James P. Carse is an American writer and Professor Emeritus of history and literature of religion at New York University. His book Finite and Infinite Games was widely influential. Carse's recent work on religion and belief provides a foil to New Atheism. His novel PhDeath was published in the fall of 2016. He wrote other books include: Death and Existence, The Silence of God, Breakfast at the Victory, The Gospel of the Beloved Disciple, Learning to Hear the Silence, and The Religious Case Against Belief.
