Jean Pierre de Caussade was born in Cahors, Lot, France. He was a French Jesuit priest and writer known for the work ascribed to him, Abandonment to Divine Providence, and his work with Nuns of the Visitation in Nancy, France. He also spent years as preacher in southern and central France, as a college rector, and as the director of theological students at the Jesuit house in Toulouse, which is where he died. He wrote several books include: Abandonment to Divine Providence, Abandonment, The fire of divine love, The Joy Of Full Surrender, Spiritual Counsels of Father De Caussade, and Self-Abandonment to Divine Providence.
