She is a two-time winner of the Lambda Literary Award, which focuses on LGBT issues. She has written several novels include: Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit (Costa First Novel Award), The Passion (John Llewellyn Rhys Prize), Sexing the Cherry, Written on the Body (Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction), Art and Lies, Gut Symmetries, Lighthousekeeping, and The Stone Gods.
