James Arthur Crumley was born in Three Rivers, Texas, USA. He was an American author of violent hardboiled crime novels and several volumes of short stories and essays, as well as published and unpublished screenplays. He studied at Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned a BA degree in History from Texas College of Arts and Industries in 1964. He earned his MFA Creative Writing degree from the University of Iowa in 1966. He wrote several novels include: One to Count Cadence, The Wrong Case, The Last Good Kiss, Dancing Bear, The Mexican Tree Duck(won- Hammett Prize), Bordersnakes, The Final Country, and The Right Madness.
