Edmond Fleg was born in Geneva, Switzerland. He was a Jewish French playwright, poet, and writer of the 20th century. He went to live in Paris, where he became a theater critic and a successful playwright. His plays included Le Message, La Bête, and Le Trouble-fête, and French versions of Goethe's Faust and Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. He also wrote the libretti for Ernest Bloch's Macbeth and Georges Enesco's Oedipus.
