John R. Bolton was born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He is an American lawyer and diplomat. He served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from August 2005 until December 2006 as a recess appointee by President George W. Bush. He served as the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. He served as the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs. He earned a BA degree from Yale University in 1970. He earned a JD degree from Yale Law School in 1974. He has been a prominent participant in several neoconservative groups, like the Project for the New American Century, Jewish Institute for National Security of America, and the Committee for Peace and Security in the Gulf. He is currently of counsel to the Washington, D.C. law firm Kirkland & Ellis.
