Dame Jane Morris Goodall, formerly Baroness Jane van Lawick-Goodall was born in London, England. She is a British anthropologist, primatologist, ethologist, naturalist, researcher and UN Messenger of Peace. Considered to be the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees, she is best known for her over 55-year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees since she first went to Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania in 1960. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots program, and she has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues. She obtained a PhD degree in ethology from Newnham College, Cambridge University in 1965. She has written several books include: My Friends the Wild Chimpanzees, Africa in my blood, The Chimpanzees of Gombe, The Ten Trusts(with Marc Bekoff), and Hope for Animals and Their World.
