Charles de Gaulle was born in Lille, France. He was a French politician, general and writer. He was the leader of Free France and the head of the Provisional Government of the French Republic. In 1958, he founded the Fifth Republic and was elected as the 18th President of France, until his resignation in 1969. His War Memoirs, written in the 1950s, quickly became a classic of modern French literature. De Gaulle was educated in Paris at the College Stanislas.
