John Madden was born in Austin, Minnesota, USA. He is an American former football player and coach for the National Football League. He won a Super Bowl as head coach of the Oakland Raiders in the American Football Conference of the NFL. In 2006, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in recognition of his coaching career. He earned a BS degree in Education in 1959 and an MA degree in Education in 1961 both from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California. He married Virginia Fields in 1959. They have two sons, Joseph and Michael.
