Israel Zangwill was born in London, England. He was a British writer, humourist, playwright and Zionist leader, one of the earliest English interpreters of Jewish immigrant life. He later rejected the search for a Jewish homeland and became the prime thinker behind the territorial movement. He earned a BA degree with triple honours from the University of London in 1884. He wrote several books include: Children of the Ghetto(novel), The Big Bow Mystery, The Grey Wig, Ghetto Comedies, Merely Mary Ann(novel), Dreamers of the Ghetto, Ghetto Tragedies, Without Prejudice, The king of Schnorrers, The Voice of Jerusalem, and The Perfect Crime. He wrote several plays include: The Melting Pot and The Serio-Comic Governess.
