He received a BA degree from San Diego State University in 1973. He has written several novels include: Hegira, Psychlone, Beyond Heaven's River, The Infinity Concerto, Corona, Eon, Blood Music, The Forge of God, Eternity, Queen of Angels, Anvil of Stars, Moving Mars, Legacy, Foundation and Chaos, Dinosaur Summer, Darwin's Radio, Vitals, Darwin's Children, Dead Lines, Quantico, Mariposa, and Hull Zero Three.
