John Randolph Thune was born in Pierre, South Dakota, USA. He is an American Republican politician serving as the United States Senator from South Dakota, since 2005. He previously served as the U.S. Representative for South Dakota's at-large congressional district from 1997 to 2003. He served as Chair of the Senate Republican Conference and Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee. He earned a BA degree in Business Administration from Biola University in California in 1983. He earned an MBA degree from the University of South Dakota in 1984. He is also the current dean of South Dakota's congressional delegation.
