Jeffrey Warren "Jeff" Daniels was born in Athens, Georgia, USA. He is an American actor, film director, playwright and screenwriter. He received Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actor for his performances in The Purple Rose of Cairo, Something Wild, and The Squid and the Whale. His role in other films include: Ragtime, Sweet Hearts Dance, Arachnophobia (won- Saturn Award for Best Actor), Love Hurts, Gettysburg, Speed, 101 Dalmatians, Pleasantville, Chasing Sleep, Escanaba in da Moonlight (also director, writer), Super Sucker (also director, writer), I Witness, The Lookout, Traitor, State of Play, Away We Go, Looper, Steve Jobs, and The Martian. His role in television include: The Crossing (TV film), Cheaters (TV film), The Goodbye Girl (TV film), Sweet Nothing in My Ear (TV film), The Newsroom (TV series, Won- Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series- 2013), and Godless (TV series).
