He received Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actor for his performances in The Purple Rose of Cairo, Something Wild, and The Squid and the Whale. His role in other films include: Ragtime, Sweet Hearts Dance, Arachnophobia (won- Saturn Award for Best Actor), Love Hurts, Gettysburg, Speed, 101 Dalmatians, Pleasantville, Chasing Sleep, Escanaba in da Moonlight (also director, writer), Super Sucker (also director, writer), I Witness, The Lookout, Traitor, State of Play, Away We Go, Looper, Steve Jobs, and The Martian.
