Jack Kroll was born in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA. He was an American film critic and editor. His career spanned 37 years- more than half the publication's existence. He graduated from City College of New York in 1954. He also earned a master's degree in English and comparative literature. He joined Newsweek as an associate arts editor in 1963. Over his career with the magazine, he was responsible for 19 cover stories and over 1,200 articles.
