John Henninger Reagan was born in Sevier County, Tennessee, USA. He was an American Democratic politician, lawyer and surveyor. He served as the United States Senator from Texas (1887-1891). He served in the cabinet of Jefferson Davis as Postmaster General. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas's 1st congressional district from 1857-1861 and 1875-1883. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas's 2nd congressional district from 1883-1887. He was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1847-1849. He worked as a surveyor from 1839 to 1843. He studied law on his own and was licensed to practice in 1846, opening an office in Buffalo. The same year he was elected a probate judge in Henderson County. He was admitted to the bar in 1848 and practiced in both Buffalo and Palestine, Texas. He was elected a district judge in Palestine, serving from 1852 to 1857.
