John Albert Kitzhaber was born in Colfax, Washington, USA. He is an American physician and Democratic politician. He is the longest-serving governor in Oregon's history. He served as 35th Governor of Oregon from 1995-2003, and 37th Governor of Oregon from 2011-2015. He was sworn in for a fourth term on January 12, 2015. He resigned on February 18, 2015, with state and federal investigations into criminal allegations against him and his fiancée, Cylvia Hayes. He earned a BA degree from Dartmouth College in 1969. He earned his MD degree from Oregon Health & Science University in 1973. He practiced medicine from 1973 to 1986 in Roseburg, Oregon, as an emergency physician. He previously served in the Oregon House of Representatives and Oregon Senate, including as Senate President.
