John Gilbert "Jack" Layton was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was a Canadian politician and Leader of the Official Opposition. He was leader of the New Democratic Party from 2003 to 2011. He was the Member of Parliament for Toronto-Danforth from 2004 until his death. In 1969–70, he was the Prime Minister of the Quebec Youth Parliament. He graduated from McGill University in 1970 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in political science.
