Carl Levin was born in Detroit, Michigan. He was an American Senator from Michigan from 1979 to 2015. He was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, and is a member of the Democratic Party. He is a graduate of Swarthmore College and Harvard Law School. He attended Swarthmore College, graduating with his Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1956. He then attended Harvard Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1959.
