James Douglas Morrison was born in Melbourne, Florida, USA. He was an American singer, songwriter and poet, best remembered as the lead singer of the Doors. He co-founded the Doors during the summer of 1965 in Venice, California. The band spent two years in obscurity until shooting to prominence with their single in the United States, "Light My Fire", taken from their self-titled debut album. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He earned a BA degree in Cinematography from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1965. He was also the author of several books of poetry and the director of a documentary and short film.
