Sir George Adam Smith was born in Kolkata, India. He was a Scottish preacher, professor, and theologian. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh. He was appointed professor of Old Testament subjects in the Free Church College at Glasgow in 1892. In 1909 he was appointed principal of the University of Aberdeen, a post he held until his retirement in 1935. He served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the United Free Church of Scotland in 1916-17. He wrote several books include: The Historical Geography of the Holy Land, The life of Henry Drummond, Jerusalem, Modern Criticism and the Preaching of the Old Testament, and The Book Of Twelve Prophets.
