John Foxe was born in Boston, Lincolnshire, England. He was an English clergyman, historian and author of Foxe's Book of Martyrs, an account of Christian martyrs throughout Western history but emphasizing the sufferings of English Protestants and proto-Protestants from the 14th century through the reign of Mary I. He studied at Brasenose College, Oxford. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1537, and his master's degree in 1543 both from Magdalen College, Oxford.
