Haniel Clark Long was born in Rangoon, Burma. He was an American poet, novelist, journalist and professor. Educated at Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard, he started a career as a reporter for the New York Globe but returned to Pittsburgh to teach at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. He was promoted to head the English Department in 1920. He wrote several books include: Notes for a New Mythology, Pittsburgh memoranda, The power within us, Walt Whitman and the springs of courage, Piñon country, Spring Returns(novel), My Seasons(poem), Atlantides(poem), The Marvellous Adventure of Cabeza de Vaca, The Grist Mill, If He Can Make Her So, and Interlinear to Cabeza de Vaca.
