Ernst Lubitsch Quotes
You could name the great stars of the silent screen who were finished; the great directors gone; the great title writers who were washed up. But remember this, as long as you live: the producers didn't lose a man. They all made the switch. That's where the great talent is.

Ernst Lubitsch was born in Berlin, Germany. He was a German-American film director, producer, writer, and actor. His urbane comedies of manners gave him the reputation of being Hollywood's most elegant and sophisticated director; as his prestige grew, his films were promoted as having "the Lubitsch touch". In 1913, he made his film debut as an actor in The Ideal Wife. He gradually abandoned acting to concentrate on directing. He appeared in approximately thirty films as an actor between 1912 and 1920. His last film appearance as an actor was in the 1920 drama Sumurun. He directed several films include: The Eyes of the Mummy, The Doll, The Loves of Pharaoh, Rosita, Kiss Me Again, The Love Parade, One Hour With You, To Be or Not To Be, Heaven Can Wait, and That Lady in Ermine.
